Research interests:

Earlier my main research interest was to study the molecular background of adaptation. I have used the alcohol tolerance of Drosophila melanogaster as a model system. I have investigated the role of octanol dehydrogenase in alcohol tolerance both in natural populations and in laboratory strains.

At present I am mostly interested in the structure of genetic variation of natural insect (mostly Lepidoptera) populations. Together with my colleagues we investigate variation at two levels. We study genetic variation using enzyme polymorphism and phenotypic variation by analysing morphometric traits on the wings and genital organs. The most fascinating part of this work is to find association between the pattern of variation and the reproductive strategy, life history or the demographic characteristics of the given species.
